Simple Beauty Part 3: My Make-up Routine

Screen shot 2013-12-03 at 6.04.09 PM

Make-up is a tricky thing wouldn’t you say? I cannot tell you how many products I’ve tried and hated. Before I got hooked on YouTube beauty gurus it was really a hit or miss when I went to the store. I had NO idea what I was looking for. I was so out of my habitat…but in the last couple months I have gotten into make-up—deep deep deep into make-up. I am hooked now… My wallet :(! But anyways most of the time it is worth it.

I mean as my make-up routine stands now, I absolutely love it. I am a very simple person and I like my look to match that. Not saying I am boring because believe me I am so weird I am probably the least boring person you could meet. I don’t go dramatic with my make-up look but I do still like a pop of color on my lips or eyes here and there…never on both at the same time though (I’m not that daring).

Anyways if you are looking for a simple and easy make-up look then you should consider some of these products. They are long lasting and simple enough to bring out your natural beauty with a POP!

Products:

*I apply them in this order*

Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller Under eyes

Maybelline Fit me concealer (shade 10) On blemishes and redness

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (shade 005 Silky Beige) All over face

Simple Beauty Part 2: My Shower Products

Screen shot 2013-12-03 at 5.34.31 PM

Obviously everyone is going to have their own opinions about products they use everyday in the shower but I thought I would share my favorites and why I love them. I normally shower everyday and wash my hair everyday—I know I know you’re not supposed to. THIS IS WHAT WORKS BEST FOR ME!

On a normal morning or night I usually begin my shower with body wash… of course I don’t have my favorite at this time so I will insert the link down below where you can find a picture. But I love Burnt Brown Sugar by Caress. If it is the summer months than I trade it out for Tahitian by Caress as well. On days where I feel I need some exfoliation I will use my Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub!

Next I wash my face with my Purity face wash and my Clarsonic.HOLY MOLY my clarsonic has changed my life and my skin’s life. Every other day I also use a little bit of Apricot Scrub either the St. Ive’s or the store brand and exfoliate my face after cleansing it. Yes, I know the Clarisonic is meant to exfoliate but sometimes I like a little extra to remove all of the dead skin.

Finally it is time to wash my hair. I start out with Herbal Essence Body Envy Shampoo…Although I love all the scents really by Herbal. And finally I condition my hair with Derm Organic Intensive Hair Repair Mask, which I leave on for about five minutes. TJ-MAXX is the best and cheapest place to find this!!!! Keep an eye out. Their shampoo is also nice but I prefer the strong scents of Herbal Essence.

Products:

Caress Burnt Brown Sugar Body Wash

Caress Tahitian Body Wash

Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub

Clarsonic

Purity Face Wash

Equate Apricot Scrub

Herbal Essence Body Envy Shampoo

Derm Organic Intensive Hair Masque

Simple Beauty Part 1: My FLAWLESS skincare routine

Screen shot 2013-12-03 at 4.29.36 PM

Before I say anything further I wouldjust like to note that not everyone has the same type of skin and/or problems with their skin. Certain products may have worked on me but that doesn’t mean you will get similar results. For those wondering I have normal to dry skin and always have had a lot of burning around my eyes. I have struggled with moderate acne since I was about twelve and this routine that I have been using for the last three months has completely cleared up my acne as well as minimized the look of my acne scars.

I have bounced around from ALL types of skincare brands and products trying to find something to clear up my acne and not until about three months ago did I find my holy grail. I know what it is like to try everything…literally everything; from homemade remedies to every drugstore face-wash, acne spot treatment, lotions and so on. Nothing ever seemed to work and by work I mean WALLAH the acne is gone. I have found that Neutrogena products were always my best bet when it came to controlling my acne and reducing the amount of pimples that appeared… that is, if you are not in my market for the high-end product that worked for me.

So, after many years of struggling I finally decided to see a dermatologist. The meeting took about three minutes and he barely even looked at my skin…didn’t even touch my face! PLUS PLUS PLUS! But anyways he prescribed me an Acne gel medicine called Differin and an antibiotic you take by mouth (however, I do not believe the pill did anything compared to the gel… SAVE your $$$). This prescription is very easy to come by if you have moderate acne, or even subtle acne. THIS WAS THE MAGIC PRODUCT FOR MY ACNE. I believe the prescription ran about $300 BUT I ordered it from a prescription website and got it for $150. I am not even a fifth of the way through the tube and I have been using it twice a day for three months. In my opinion this was the best thing I could have done for myself and I will be repurchasing the medication for many years to come.

My everyday skincare routine involves: (The links will take you to where you can purchase the product)

Morning:

1) Wash face with PURITY face-wash

2) Apply L’Oreal eye cream

3) Apply Serious Skincare HI-BRIGHT eye cream

4) Apply 100% Pure Cosmetics Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream

5) Apply Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer all over face

Night:

1) Wash face with PURITY face-wash

2) Apply L’Oreal eye cream

3) Apply Serious Skincare HI-BRIGHT eye cream

4) Apply Perlier Extreme Regenovive Hydro-Zone Face Cream all over face

5)Apply Equate Antibiotic Cream under eyes (Helps replenish moisture)

6) Apply Differin Acne Gel (Can be found at a pharmacy or an online pharmacy)

BLACK FRIDAY…the silent killer

Image

So as most you too have probably heard of Black Friday…maybe even participated in it? I have, for almost the past 7 years I have been actively involved in Black Friday shopping. Thanksgiving day comes and normally once you finish all your food all you can think about is the awesome deals you are going to score and the fun times you are going to have. No. Actually no, that is not what happens at all.

When I was younger I could never get my mom to go with me, it was alwaysmyself and my grandma. I had fun because I was going shopping more-so to enjoy the hype and watch my grandma buy things. But as the years have gone on I have been the one shopping while my grandma sits back and watches. This year however, it was different because I wasn’t with my grandma in fact I wasn’t even in my home state. So now you have to consider that I am in an unfamiliar town with people I am not used to shopping with.

It started out okay; we had a late start and made our way to the cliche stores, starting with Target. As the day seemed to drag on and I mean DRAG on it just got worst and worst. First of all…. where were all the people this year?! I don’t know about you, but some of the stores we went to were dead. As the day went on I realized more and more that Black Friday isn’t what it used to be when I was younger. The deals start earlier, the stores open earlier, and the excitement fades faster than ever before.

I learned this year that unless you have something particular you want/need and you know the store, the price, and all the small details than Black Friday simply isn’t worth it anymore. The deals aren’t how they used to be. And I’ll admit some deals are still great, but it is only on particular items and you have to know about them before hand. The problem with that is, if you aren’t looking to buy those items than Black Friday probably isn’t for you. The bigger stores like Target and Walmart were a waste of time to us…half of the stuff you can get for cheaper when it goes on clearance. The only thing worth my time anymore would be the smaller clothing stores such as American Eagle who had 50% of the entire store.

Beauty and fashion is something that can so easily be made simple and you would think that Black Friday and the reputation it holds would be there to aid you and help you be the fashionable person you want to be and afford the high-end make-up and beauty products that are normally highly-priced, but the truth of the matter is…the best place to find all of that is a storeI like to call my favorite…TJ-Maxx. Because Black Friday is dwindling in my eyes and the amount of time and energy it takes just to buy a few things and not even get a stellar deal is just not worth it.

Youtube Beauty Gurus

Screen shot 2013-11-25 at 4.27.43 PM                 Screen shot 2013-11-25 at 4.29.18 PM

Lately I’ve found myself consumed in the world of “the beauty guru”… on Youtube that is. It’s crazy to explore Youtube and find dozens of people and channels you LOVE watching. I seem to find a new person I am obsessed with every couple of weeks. After that, I’m sold and I end up watching all of their videos religiously. It sort of becomes an addiction.

Finding new people so regularly makes me wonder how many other beauty gurus are on there that I am missing out on. Youtube is a unique place. You can find the over-the-top people who put on a show for their viewers or the simple more down to Earth gurus, who I tend to watch.

Before I got sucked into this vortex I wasn’t one who wanted… actually NEEDED, to try all these new products. Now when I watch a product review video or an empties video, where the youtuber shows all of their trash and used up products and let’s you know how they liked them, I instantly feel this urge to run out to the store and buy these products for myself. The urge triples when I see that multiple beauty gurus are raving about the same product.

The nice thing about the beauty gurus I have come to love is that a majority of them are advocates for the drug store! When I see awesome make-up products, hair care products, or even skin care products that are dirt cheap, and they seem to have loved them,it only makes me want to try them even more.

I wouldn’t think that I would be one to get into this routine but WOW, if anything I have saved money by not wasting money on products I know aren’t worth it and also I have found a surplus of products I have genuinely fallen in love with. Who wouldn’t want to watch a real person trying out real products?

Here is a list of my favorite Youtubers:

Simple, classy and more importantly YOU.

The pressures to look a certain way in today’s society are unending. As a twenty-year-old college student I too have felt these pressures. It is a time in our life when we are trying to discover who we are, so why would you want to cover that up? Why do women think it is necessary to change every natural thing about them?

I am not saying that every girl in her twenties is in to the whole “cake your make-up on your face” look, but to some it seems like their only option. YOU are beautiful. Three simple words that many of us forgot to remind ourselves of. And maybe it’s not so much that we forget to remind ourselves of it, maybe it is that society is forgetting to remind us. Critiques about women’s looks are just about everywhere and I know it’s been said time and time again but honesty in the past three years of my college experience I’ve learned who I am and what “look” works best on me…. and the funniest part is… the “best” look on me, is ME.

I guess if someone would’ve been sitting behind a computer screen telling me all these things three years ago, I probably wouldn’t have listened to them either. I feel as though I have always opted for the more natural look, not saying that I haven’t had my monthly phases of wearing more make-up or changing my look up. But when it comes down to it, I’ve always strayed back to the same look…. simple, classy and me.

I know a lot of girls today compare themselves to not only their peers but also celebrities. This is no no number one. Again the cliché talk about society formulating the perfect person and promoting celebrities that have that ideal look. But you have to realize that comparing yourself to other people will only end up putting yourself down. I have come to realize that the only person you should compare yourself to is you. If you do this than you will find that your “competition” is right on your level and you can only better yourself from there on out.
